Every year as the holidays approach, we are inspired by the initiative taken by Canadians as they come together in the spirit of the holiday season to donate and take action during a time when most are celebrating, but some are unable to. Our incredible community of donors, allies, volunteers, and fundraisers are dedicated to helping bring joy, belonging, and celebration into a time of year that can often be confusing, lonely, and stressful for children and youth living in care and accessing child welfare services.
Bringing the holidays to hundreds of children and youth each year in various ways is no small task, but our community consistently comes through to make it happen.
Here are a few ways we’re standing up for kids during the holidays:
Friends and Loved Ones Fund – This fund provides youth with the opportunity to connect with important people in their lives or to have a place to stay so they are able to visit during the holiday season.
Workplace Giving Fundraisers – Each year we see a number of workplaces bring their employees together to raise funds and collect gift cards to help make the holidays bright for children and youth in care. Employees at VISA Canada have been supporting our Holiday Campaign for over 12 years, and in 2019, their “Fill the Sleigh” gift card drive saw over 30 employees participate, with over $2,100 raised in employee donations that were then matched by VISA Canada.
Holiday Season Celebration – Our longest-standing enrichment initiative, providing kids and families in Toronto with an afternoon of fun, good food, making connections with other kids and families in their community, and get-ting into the holiday spirit.
Thanks to our supporters, the Holiday Season Campaign and Celebration event has been able to provide tens of thousands of Toronto’s most vulnerable children and youth with holiday memories that will last a lifetime.
