We’re excited to announce that our latest free, e-cookbook is now available for digital download!
In More Than Meals: Stories and Recipes of Youth from Child Welfare, each recipe is accompanied by a story told by a young person with experience in the child welfare system.
As you prepare each ingredient, co-authors Chantal, Jae, Natasha, and Michelle will share how they entered care, their resilience in the face of adversity, and how the system has impacted them today. Once your timer goes off and your dish is ready, you will not only have a new meal to try, but you will also have gained a new perspective into the experiences of thousands of young Canadians.
Chantal shares how eating and cooking used to be a source of restriction and instability in her childhood, but by cooking recipes like her Easy-Peasy Chocolate Banana Muffins, food now brings comfort and connection. Jae contributes a Warm Chili recipe, a hearty dish they enjoy making for friends after finding their sense of self and joy of cooking again. Natasha reflects on her Broc-Fu recipe and how it came together at a time when she needed independence while living on her own. Michelle explains how being a crown ward shaped her catering venture, and shares her recipe for Jamaican Fried Chicken alongside a special family recipe, Caribbean-Inspired Banana Bread.
By downloading More Than Meals: Stories and Recipes of Youth from Child Welfare, you support our mission to help kids in and from care go from surviving to thriving.
