At Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada, we believe that young people leaving the child welfare system should have every opportunity to overcome the barriers to success they have experienced throughout their lives and continue to face into adulthood.

We know that achieving a post-secondary education is an effective way to help achieve career goals and build successful, independent lives. Unfortunately, young people raised in care face a multitude of barriers to enrolling in postsecondary institutions and their enrollment rate is at half that of the general population.

Together with our community of partners and donors, we are committed to empowering youth transitioning out of child welfare with the supports and resources they need to successfully navigate independence and establish meaningful, fulfilling lives after care.

This is why we partner with incredible donors like BMO Financial Group.

This year, we had the exciting opportunity to once again be a beneficiary of BMO’s Equity Through Education (ETE) program. This charitable initiative is aimed at creating a more diverse workplace by offering support for deserving people to realize their educational ambitions by giving them opportunities they might not otherwise have.

Since its inception in 2005, the Equity Through Education program has raised over $33 million, providing assistance for thousands of students through scholarships, bursaries, stipends, mentoring programs, and job search strategy forums. The Foundation gratefully became a recipient of BMO’s ETE funding in 2020, and are pleased to have continued this partnership in 2024.

The 2024 Equity Through Education trading day took place on September 23, with all BMO institutional trading commissions earned across North America and Europe being donated directly to organizations that help provide access to educational opportunities.

Since the beginning of our partnership, BMO has donated a total of $960K, supporting 30 scholarships and 30 awards each year, for young people who have experienced the child welfare system and are pursuing a post-secondary education.

Thank you, BMO, for your commitment to standing up for those who have experienced the child welfare system, and for helping to make their educational goals a reality.
