Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada is excited to announce the release of a new children’s e-book, created in partnership with Keziah, one of our incredible youth ambassadors. Keziah’s Secret Armour was a collaborative venture between Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada and Keziah, a member of the Foundation’s Young People’s Advisory Council, created for the 2024 Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada Gala – Teddy Bear Affair. Now, it’s available for Canadians from coast to coast!
About Keziah’s Secret Armour
Keziah’s Secret Armour is a heartwarming tale of resilience, courage, and transformation, here to inspire children and adults alike. When Keziah is taken into foster care, her world is turned upside down. With each new home, she faces uncertainty—but also discovers strength she never knew she had. Along the way, Keziah builds her armour, piece by piece, finding hope in unexpected places and learning that she can overcome even the toughest challenges.
This beautifully illustrated story takes readers on a journey through Keziah’s trials and triumphs, reminding us all that no matter where we come from or what we face, everyone can find their own strength to support themselves and each other.
The making of Keziah’s Secret Armour
Keziah’s Secret Armour was originally created for Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s 2024 Teddy Bear Affair Gala, where it served as a powerful tool to help guests connect with the lived experiences of youth from care. The response was overwhelmingly positive – so much so that the Foundation and Keziah knew this story needed to reach beyond the Gala. By sharing it more broadly, the Foundation hopes to raise greater awareness of the realities and needs of children and youth involved in the child welfare system.
The development of this children’s e-book began at the start of 2024, when Keziah – a young woman with lived experience of child welfare and a member of the Foundation’s Young People’s Advisory Council – generously offered to share her journey through a children’s e-book. Collaborating with writer Nadia Formigoni, Keziah brought her story to life, capturing both the challenges and triumphs of her childhood and adolescence. With rich, expressive illustrations by artist Tim Shinn, Keziah’s Secret Armour is as visually compelling as it is emotionally moving.
The Foundation is deeply grateful to Keziah for her openness, strength, and vision. Her courage shines through every page, offering a powerful reminder of the hope and possibility that can emerge even in the face of adversity. More than just a story, Keziah’s Secret Armour is a heartfelt message of resilience, transformation, and the strength of young people from care.

About Keziah
Keziah lives in Ottawa, Ontario, where she’s pursuing a degree in Political Science with a minor in Social Impact. She is passionate about her work in the nonprofit sector, where she focuses on creating financial access for the communities closest to her heart. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering, exploring music and the arts, spending time with her cat, and cooking for friends. Looking ahead, Keziah is committed to advocating for systems change within the child welfare sector.
