About the Stand Up for Kids: Futures Transformed campaign
Building on the momentum of our Stand Up for Kids movement, which has rallied Canadians everywhere around the urgent needs of the kids we serve, in 2020 we launched a bold new strategic plan and a $75 million national campaign.
Leveraging the power of philanthropy, innovation, and collaboration, the Stand Up for Kids: Futures Transformed Campaign strives to permanently change the lives, experiences, and outcomes of young people involved with the child welfare system.
Teddy Bear Fund
The Teddy Bear Fund is addressing the unique needs of overrepresented communities and preventing more children from growing up in government care.
Each year, Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s Teddy Bear Fund – with the support of our incredible donor community – grants $1.25 million to the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto (CAS Toronto) and Native Child and Family Services of Toronto to enable the organizations to respond to the immediate and urgent needs of children, youth and families in crisis.
With a focus on initiatives that strengthen families and prevent children from growing up in government care, the Teddy Bear Fund supports over 20 programs and services impacting all three of our priority populations: children and families at risk, children and youth in care and youth in transition. The Fund emphasizes support for Black, Indigenous and Biracial children, youth and families, who are disproportionately overrepresented in the child welfare system.
The programs and services supported by the Teddy Bear Fund are not covered by the provincial government’s basic operational funding – meaning they rely entirely on investments from our donor community to create life-changing impact for kids and families in need.
Highlights of programs and services supported by the Teddy Bear Fund include:
Children and Families at Risk
Caring Dads: Educating fathers about the roots and impacts of domestic violence and teaching child-centred parenting.
Kuponya: A collaboration between CAS Toronto’s North West Branch, Caribbean African Canadian Social Services and the Jean Tweed Centre to work with Black families from a trauma-informed perspective.
Children and youth in care
Black Education Awareness and Programming: Mentorship programs and excursions to help Black youth develop a strong sense of self and to preserve cultural identity.
Youth in Transition
Pape Adolescent Resource Centre: A unique resource providing one-to-one support and resources for youth who have recently transitioned out of care.
By providing critical funding for a range of programs and resources delivered by CAS Toronto and Native Child and Family Services of Toronto, the Teddy Bear Fund helps vulnerable children, youth and families in our community build strength, access opportunities and ultimately look ahead to brighter, bolder futures. Thank you for considering a gift to Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s Teddy Bear Fund. Your generosity will have a direct and immediate impact on the most vulnerable children and families in Toronto, helping to address overrepresented communities and ensure fewer children enter or grow up in government care.
